The Bangladesh Meteorological Department (BMD) has forecast thunderstorms accompanied by rain and gusty winds across nine regions of the country by Saturday afternoon (July 4).

The forecast, issued for inland river ports from 5:00am to 1:00pm, warns that adverse weather conditions could produce temporary squally winds with speeds ranging from 45 to 60 km/h.

According to the BMD, the regions likely to be affected include Mymensingh, Khulna, Barishal, Patuakhali, Noakhali, Cumilla, Chattogram, Cox's Bazar and Sylhet.

The department said south or south-easterly winds may sweep across these areas, accompanied by rain or thundershowers, increasing the risk of hazardous conditions on inland waterways.

In view of the forecast, the meteorological office has instructed river ports in the affected regions to continue displaying Local Cautionary Signal No. 1 until further notice.
