TI Chairperson François in Dhaka for a 3-day visit
François Valérian, Chairperson of the International Board of Transparency International (TI), arrived in Dhaka on Tuesday for a three-day official visit. This marks his first visit to Bangladesh since being elected to the position in 2023.
During his stay, Valérian is scheduled to hold a press conference on Thursday, September 4, according to a statement issued by Transparency International Bangladesh (TIB).
TIB, one of the largest and most active chapters of the global anti-corruption coalition, announced that Valérian’s visit aims to foster exchange of experience on anti-corruption efforts and good governance at both global and national levels. The visit also includes a review of TIB’s ongoing activities, challenges, and future prospects.
As part of his itinerary, the TI Chairperson will meet with TIB staff, as well as leaders of the Citizen Engagement Committees (Sanak) from 45 regions and 65 youth representatives from the Youth Engagement and Support (YES) platforms—both key grassroots initiatives supported by TIB.
A distinguished academic and researcher, Valérian has been an active member of TI’s International Board since 2019 and has served on various high-level committees. From 2013 to 2023, he was a board member of TI-France, where he focused on combating illicit financial flows, promoting legal reforms, and ensuring political integrity.
Under his leadership, TI’s Secretariat launched a G20-level advisory initiative aimed at enhancing financial regulation and curbing corruption in the business sector.
Valérian holds undergraduate and doctoral degrees in history from France’s prestigious École Polytechnique and École des Mines de Paris. He has professional experience spanning both public and private sectors.
