Tight security at Secretariat amid ongoing protests
Security has been significantly tightened at the Secretariat as government employees continue their protests demanding the withdrawal of the Public Service (Amendment) Ordinance, 2025
On Tuesday morning, specialized SWAT teams were deployed at the Secretariat’s main gate, with additional Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) personnel stationed outside the premises. Entry to the Secretariat has been restricted solely to officials and employees.
The Ministry of Home Affairs had announced on Monday that all visitor access to the Secretariat would be suspended on Tuesday. Journalists have also been barred from entering the building as of 9:30 AM. Police officials on duty stated that a decision regarding media access will be made by noon.
This protest marks the third consecutive day of demonstrations by employees from various ministries and departments inside the Secretariat. The protestors have announced plans for another rally today and have urged government employees across the country to join similar demonstrations outside the Secretariat.
In response, all Secretariat employee organizations have united under the banner of the ‘Bangladesh Secretariat Officers-Employees Unity Forum’ to coordinate ongoing protest activities.
