Tight security in capital on Janmashtami, SWAT-bomb disposal unit to be deployed
Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) has taken strict security measures in the capital on the occasion of Shubho Janmashtami. Alongside various units of the police, intelligence members, SWAT and bomb disposal unit will remain deployed to keep security, law and order and traffic movement normal centring the festival.
These decisions were taken at a coordination meeting on overall security and traffic management of Janmashtami held at DMP headquarters in the morning on Thursday (August 27). Senior officials of DMP, representatives of various government agencies and leaders of the Janmashtami celebration committee took part in the meeting presided over by Additional Police Commissioner of DB Md Shafiqul Islam.
It was informed at the meeting that picket and patrol police will remain deployed at various important places of the capital on the occasion of Janmashtami on September 4. Alongside, foot patrol, CCTV monitoring and responsibilities will be given to DB and intelligence members in plain clothes. SWAT and bomb disposal unit will also remain prepared to deal with any kind of sabotage or unpleasant situation.
The decision has been taken to complete the Janmashtami procession within the fixed route and time. Organizers have been instructed not to use loudspeakers during azan and namaz to maintain the religious environment. Advice has also been given to appoint their own volunteers to maintain the discipline of the procession.
Besides, DMP has requested the participants of the procession not to take bags or bundles. An appeal has been made to quickly inform the police without taking any measures themselves if any suspicious person or object is noticed anywhere.
Additional Police Commissioner Md Shafiqul Islam said at the meeting that maximum security measures will be ensured from the side of DMP so that the Janmashtami festival is held in an uninterrupted, peaceful and safe environment. He called on the responsible officers and concerned to properly perform their duties as well as remain cautious about other risk factors including electric lines at the procession and venue.
