A record Tk 120.9 crore, along with foreign currency and gold ornaments, has been collected from the donation boxes of the historic Pagla Mosque in Kishoreganj.

Kishoreganj Additional Deputy Commissioner MijabeRahmat confirmed the figure around 7:45 pm on Saturday (August 30), after a daylong counting of donations.

The process began in the morning when 14 donation boxes were opened, yielding 32 bags of cash.

The counting took place on the second floor of the mosque complex, where about 500 people—including members of the mosque management committee, madrasa students, teachers, orphanage staff, and Rupali Bank officials—participated.

Kishoreganj Deputy Commissioner and Mosque Management Committee President Fouzia Khan, Superintendent of Police Mohammad Hasan Chowdhury, and District Jamaat-e-Islami Ameer Professor Md. Ramzan Ali were present during the counting.

Earlier, on April 12 this year, the mosque collected Tk 91.7 million from 11 donation boxes, which was then the highest record.

According to the mosque management committee, the donations are regularly spent on mosques, madrasas, orphanages, and other social welfare activities in the district.

Meanwhile, plans are underway to construct a Tk 115-crore Pagla Mosque Islamic Complex of international standards, which will accommodate 60,000 worshippers at a time.
