Tk 1,884 crore proposed for aviation and tourism sector

The government has proposed an allocation of Tk 1,884 crore for the Ministry of Civil Aviation and Tourism in the national budget for the upcoming fiscal year. Finance Minister Amir Khasru Mahmud Chowdhury outlined various plans to modernise the country's aviation sector and accelerate tourism-driven economic growth while presenting the budget in the National Parliament on Thursday, June 11.

An integrated development programme is being implemented to build a modern, efficient and globally competitive aviation industry, the finance minister said. Terminals at Jashore and Syedpur airports are being expanded, and the third terminal at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport is ready for full operation.

Development work at Cox's Bazar Airport has been completed, and runway capacity upgrades are underway at Sylhet and Chattogram airports. These projects will significantly enhance airport capacity across the country and improve passenger services.

Wi-Fi network coverage has been expanded across approximately 94,000 square metres at Shahjalal Airport to increase passenger convenience and service quality, the finance minister added.

The government is working to modernise passenger services, strengthen cargo management, improve aviation safety standards, and expand digital services to build a safe, efficient and competitive aviation sector.
