Tk 191 crore allocated for ACC in proposed budget for FY26
Finance Adviser Dr. Salehuddin Ahmed today proposed Taka 191 crore for Anti Corruption Commission (ACC) for 2025-26 financial year.
Of the budget, Taka 178 crore has been allocated for meeting cost of the commission while Taka 13 crore for the development purposes of the ACC.
The finance adviser proposed the allocation while presenting the national budget for fiscal year 2025-‘26 in a pre-recorded broadcast on Bangladesh Television (BTV) and Bangladesh Betar.
In adviser in his budget speech said the present government is determined to restore democratic governance and root-out corruption from the country.
“To root out corruption from the country, a proposal for amending the Anti Corruption Commission (ACC) Act-2004 is underway,” here said.
The adviser in his speech mentioned that from July 2024 to January 2025, a total of 515 cases were registered on charges of corruption and after investigation charge sheets were submitted to the court against 814 cases.
During this period, he said a total of 144 cases were disposed of in which conviction was awarded in 59 cases.
In this connection, he said the ACC has been working in accordance with the United Nations Convention Against Corruption (UNCAC) regarding the return of the laundered money that went abroad from the country, he added.
The adviser said that the ‘ACC Reform Commission’ has recently given their recommendations, which will be implemented soon after its scrutiny.
Besides, taking into consideration the recommendations of the commission’s report (White Paper) exposing the nature of unbridled corruption of the previous government, further steps are being taken to prevent corruption in the country, he added.
