Tk 20,000 monthly allowance proposed for July martyrs' families
The government has proposed a monthly honorarium allowance for families of those killed in the July 2024 mass uprising and for injured fighters for the first time in the national budget for the 2026-27 fiscal year. Special tax benefits have also been announced for gazetted July fighters.
Finance Minister Amir Khasru Mahmud Chowdhury announced the initiative for martyrs' families and injured July fighters while presenting the budget in the National Parliament on Thursday, June 11.
In his budget speech, the finance minister said the government is committed to implementing the 'July National Charter', formulated based on the spirit and aspirations of the July mass uprising. As part of this, special financial assistance is being ensured for individuals and families who contributed to the movement.
According to the proposal, the family of each martyr of the July mass uprising will receive a monthly honorarium allowance of Tk 20,000. The same allowance will be provided to 'Category A' fighters who sustained the most severe injuries. Additionally, 'Category B' injured fighters will receive Tk 15,000 per month, and 'Category C' injured fighters will receive Tk 10,000 per month.
Alongside financial assistance, tax benefits have also been proposed for gazetted July fighters. Their tax-free income limit has been proposed to be increased to Tk 5.25 lakh, higher than that of ordinary taxpayers, which is considered another important step of state recognition.
