Tk 3 crore looted in two minutes by shooting at private car in Sreepur, 4 injured

Miscreants have looted Tk 3 crore from the workers of a distributor of the mobile financial service organisation bKash by opening fire on a private car in Sreepur of Gazipur. Four people including those hit by bullets have been injured at this time. This incident took place in the Karnapur area of the Sreepur-Gosinga regional road on Friday evening.

Around 6:15pm, the miscreants came on 10 to 12 motorcycles and surrounded the private car. After that they broke the glass of the car at gunpoint, opened fire and beat the workers on Friday (October 9). Within only two minutes they took away three of the four bags of money that were in the car and fled.

Bullet-hit Himel Ahmed, 35, is the manager of the accounts department of Channel Enterprise of the Sreepur-Bhaluka area of bKash. He is a resident of Channapara area of Sreepur municipality. The other injured are credit manager of the loan branch of the organisation Fahad Hossain, 35, supervisor Rifat, 30, and private car driver Lal Mia, 32.

After giving primary treatment to the injured Himel at Sreepur Upazila Health Complex, he has been sent to Shaheed Tajuddin Ahmad Medical College Hospital of Gazipur. It has been learnt that the other three have also been injured.

Credit manager of the loan branch of the organisation Fahad Hossain informed that around 4:30pm in the afternoon they three colleagues set out for Mawna of Sreepur in a private car with Tk 4 crore from the distribution branch of Narsingdi Sadar of bKash. When they reached the Karnapur area around 6:15pm in the evening, the miscreants surrounded their car from behind on 10 to 12 motorcycles.

Fahad said that there were two riders on each motorcycle. Before they could understand anything, they broke the glass of the car with Chinese axes including local weapons. Later when they took out pistols and opened fire, Himel who was sitting in the front seat was hit by a bullet. The others broke the glass beside the driver of the car and beat them.

He further informed that there was Tk 1 crore in each of the four bags kept at the back of the car. The miscreants took three bags and fled towards Sreepur. Later he went to Sreepur Upazila Health Complex with the injured colleagues.

Proprietor of the distributing organisation Channel Enterprise Limited of the Mawna-Bhaluka area of bKash Md. Rafiq informed that the workers of his organisation were returning to Sreepur after collecting money from Narsingdi. There was Tk 4 crore in their car. On the way the miscreants who came on motorcycles took away Tk 3 crore by opening fire and beating the workers.

Doctor of the emergency department of Sreepur Upazila Health Complex Anik Sarkar informed that the injured persons were brought to the hospital around 6:30pm in the evening. There was a deep wound on the right side of Himel’s abdomen, which may be a bullet injury. As his physical condition deteriorated, he has been sent to Shaheed Tajuddin Ahmad Medical College Hospital of Gazipur for advanced treatment.

Officer-in-Charge of Sreepur Police Station Mohammad Shahinur Alam said that after receiving the news police went to the spot. However by then the miscreants had fled. The injured persons have informed about the looting of Tk 3 crore. However police have not yet been able to confirm the amount of the looted money.

He further said that information and data of the incident are being collected. Police have started an operation to identify the miscreants and recover the looted money.
