The government has proposed a substantial increase in allocation for the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare in the national budget for the 2026-27 fiscal year. A total of Tk 69,409 crore has been proposed for this sector.

Finance Minister Amir Khasru Mahmud Chowdhury presented the budget proposal in the National Parliament on Thursday, June 11.

The revised budget for the current 2025-26 fiscal year had allocated Tk 35,477 crore for the health sector. The proposed allocation for the upcoming budget is nearly double that amount.

In his budget speech, the finance minister said the government's health policy aims to ensure universal and equitable healthcare. At the same time, a shift will be made from a curative healthcare system to a preventive one.

He further said efforts will be made to deliver healthcare services to rural and marginalised communities, and strengthen maternal and child health, nutrition and immunisation programmes. Emphasis will also be placed on developing health technology and the domestic medical industry.
