Tk 74 lakh recovered from detained district Jamaat Ameer: OC

Law enforcement agencies have detained Thakurgaon district Jamaat-e-Islami Ameer Belal Uddin Praman along with a large amount of cash from Syedpur Airport in Nilphamari.

He was detained during a routine search around noon on Wednesday, February 11.

Airport sources said a significant quantity of cash was found in his luggage during the search. Later, during interrogation, he was detained after failing to provide a satisfactory explanation regarding the money.

Although varying information emerged initially regarding the amount of recovered cash, Syedpur Police Station Officer-in-Charge Rezaul Karim Reza has confirmed that after counting, Tk 74 lakh was found.

During primary interrogation after his detention, he claimed he was involved in the garment business and was carrying the money for business purposes. Law enforcement agencies are now verifying his statement.
