‘Today’s victory is vctory of Bangladesh’ after 17 years of struggle: Mirza Fakhrul
After a long 17-year struggle, today’s victory is “a victory for Bangladesh,” said BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir. In a post shared on his verified Facebook page around 3:00am on Thursday night, he wrote: “We remember the millions of martyrs of 1971. I remember Shaheed President Zia and Begum Khaleda Zia. I remember Ilias Ali, Suman, and thousands of leaders and activists who are no longer among us. We remember the martyrs of July, whose sacrifices made this new Bangladesh possible.”
The BNP Secretary General expressed gratitude to the party’s Acting Chairman Tarique Rahman, BNP leaders and activists, and people from all communities — Hindus, Muslims, Buddhists, Christians, and indigenous groups alike. He also thanked the interim government, law enforcement agencies, and the armed forces.
In line with the BNP’s central directive, Mirza Fakhrul called on party leaders and activists to refrain from holding any victory processions on Friday.
Instead, he said, prayer gatherings would be organized in their respective areas after Friday prayers.
Concluding his post, he wrote: “Our responsibility has increased greatly. Please pray for me so that I can fulfill our promises and work for you.”
