Tonu murder case: First arrest after 10 years, accused remanded

For the first time in 10 years, an accused has been arrested in the Sohagi Jahan Tonu murder case.

Later, the court has sent the arrested Senior Warrant Officer Hafizur Rahman to a 3-day remand.

Cumilla Senior Judicial Magistrate Mominul Haque passed the order on Wednesday afternoon.

Earlier, PBI investigation officer Tariqul Islam arrested Hafizur Rahman from his residence. He was later produced before the Cumilla Sadar Court.

On April 6, the seventh investigation officer of this controversial case sought the court's permission to cross-match the DNA samples of three suspects - Sergeant Zahid, Warrant Officer Hafizur Rahman and Soldier Shahinul Alam.

According to court sources, 80 dates have passed in the case so far and seven investigation officers from four agencies have handled the case.

Court sources also said that Tonu's parents and younger brother Rubel Hossain appeared in the Cumilla court at around 5 pm today. The process of recording the statements of Tonu's parents is underway.
