Tourist dies after falling from parasailing in Cox's Bazar
A tourist died after falling from a parasail into the sea at Cox's Bazar beach on Saturday (August 1) afternoon. The incident occurred around 2pm in the Daryanagar beach area.
The deceased has been identified as Akshar Soubik Roy (31), son of Shekhar Roy from the Bania Khama area of Khulna Sadar upazila.
According to local sources, the victim was among nine friends who had come to Cox's Bazar for a trip on Saturday morning. While parasailing at Daryanagar beach in the afternoon, he became detached from the parasail and fell into the sea. He was recovered and taken to Cox's Bazar Sadar Hospital, where the on-duty doctor declared him dead.
Cox's Bazar Sadar Hospital Resident Medical Officer Dr Subaktagin Mohammad Sohel said Akshar Soubik Roy was brought to the hospital at 2:10pm. He had died before being brought to the hospital. It is initially believed that he died after falling into the sea.
Executive Magistrate Mahmudul Hasan, from the district administration's tourism cell, said the tourist's body was recovered and kept at the morgue of Cox's Bazar Sadar Hospital.
Locals claimed that this was not the first accident at the parasailing operation owned by Md Farid in the Daryanagar area. Although operations were temporarily suspended after previous incidents, the service was later resumed.
