Tourist killed in road crash on Teknaf Marine Drive

A tourist was killed after a speeding dump truck hit his motorcycle on the Teknaf section of the Marine Drive road in Cox’s Bazar.

The accident took place in the Boro Deil area under Baharchhara union in this afternoon (April 23), police said.

The deceased was identified as Ashraful Islam, 21, a resident of Middle Badda in Dhaka.

According to Inspector Durjoy Biswas of the Baharchhara Police Investigation Centre, the motorcycle, heading towards Cox’s Bazar from Teknaf, was struck from behind by a fast-moving dump truck around 2:30pm.

Ashraful was thrown off the bike and sustained critical injuries. Locals rescued him and rushed him to Cox’s Bazar Sadar Hospital, but he died on the way.

Police have seized both the motorcycle and the dump truck involved in the accident. The body has been kept at the Cox’s Bazar Sadar Hospital morgue for autopsy.

Legal proceedings in connection with the incident are underway.
