The body of Subrata Saha Bikash, 33, a tourist who went missing while swimming at the Sadapathor tourist spot in Companiganj upazila, Sylhet, was recovered on Friday morning, July 4. Police recovered the body around 8:00 am from near the Volaganj ropeway bunker adjacent to the tourist spot, based on information provided by a local boatman.

The deceased was the son of Mihir Lal Saha from Ramgati upazila in Lakshmipur. He had come to visit Sadapathor with four friends from Dhaka on Thursday. Around 2:30 pm, the four friends entered the water together to bathe, and Subrata was swept away by the current.

A rescue operation involving the fire service, police and locals was launched, but after several hours of searching, no trace was found. Finally, about 18 hours after he went missing, a boatman named Rubel Mia spotted the body near the Volaganj ropeway bunker and informed police.

Volaganj Police Outpost In-Charge Jagat Jyoti said the body was recovered from near pillar no 3 of the ropeway bunker and sent to Osmani Medical College Hospital morgue for autopsy.

Companiganj Upazila Nirbahi Officer Mohammad Robin Mia urged tourists to remain cautious to avoid such accidents. He said despite repeated warnings, many people, in their enthusiasm, enter the water without life jackets, leading to such incidents.
