Towhidi Janata and mob violence become national threat: Left Democratic Alliance
Bogura unit of the Left Democratic Alliance believes that the so-called Towhidi Janata and mob violence currently occurring in the country is not an isolated incident, but rather it has become a permanent threat to public life.
Incidents such as attacks on shrines and dargahs, vandalism, taking bodies out of graves and burning them, and setting political offices on fire are worrying, they said.
The leaders of Bogura unit of Left Democratic Alliance held a protest rally and procession expressing concern against such incidents on Sunday.
At the time, the leaders of the alliance described these incidents as an organized conspiracy.
They said that 'A identified fanatic group is trying to destabilize the country by using religious extremism. Since the mass uprising, they have been carrying out planned violence, but the government has not taken effective action and is only giving statements.'
They allege that the government is sometimes giving shelter to this mob by referring to it as a 'pressure group'. As a result, this group is becoming more reckless. The leaders feel that such religious extremism and mobs should not be identified as 'pressure groups' but as 'national threats' and those involved in the violence should be arrested and given exemplary punishment.
The speakers said that there is an attempt to establish religious fascism in the country, which requires the people to be united to stop.
At the gathering, Advocate Saiful Islam Paltu, the coordinator of the Left Democratic Alliance in Bogura, said: "The so-called Towhidi Janata and extremist groups under different names are carrying out mob violence in various places of the country including Rajbari, Rajshahi, Dhaka."
"The government's job is not just to issue statements, but to take strict action against these terrorist activities and prosecute those involved," he added.
Advocate Dilruba Noori, member secretary of the Bogura district Left Democratic Alliance, said: "The government should not just play the role of an observer but should take effective steps to stop mob terrorism, prevent price increases and improve the law and order situation."
Also speaking at the gathering were former president of the Communist Party of Bangladesh (CPB) Bogura, freedom fighter Jinnatul Islam, general secretary Aminul Farid, CPB Bogura General Secretary Hasan Ali Sheikh, BaSaD district unit members Saifuzzaman Tutul and Masud Parvez, and many others.
