Tractor driver dies as vehicle falls into Padma in Faridpur

A tractor driver named Joy Biswas, 20, has died after his vehicle overturned and fell into the Padma River while cultivating land on the riverbank in Char Bhadrasan, Faridpur.

The accident occurred around 11:00 am on Friday, June 5, in the Balurghat area of Char Jhaukanda union.

Fire service, police and local residents recovered his body from the river.

Joy Biswas was the son of Golam Ali Biswas of Shahbazpur village in Shailkupa upazila, Jhenaidah. He worked locally as a tractor driver.

According to local sources, he was cultivating aman paddy fields on the Padma riverbank late Thursday night. He lost control, and the tractor fell into the river, trapping him underneath. Due to darkness, the incident was not immediately noticed.

Locals spotted parts of the tractor floating in the river on Friday morning and informed the administration. A fire service team recovered the body around 11:00 am.

The Char Bhadrasan fire station officer said drowsiness or a riverbank collapse may have caused the accident.

Char Bhadrasan police said the body has been recovered and will be handed over to family members after legal procedures.
