Trade resumes thru Benapole port after three-day suspension
Import and export activities between Bangladesh and India resumed through the Benapole land port after a three-day suspension linked to the West Bengal state elections.
The operations were resumed with goods-laden trucks entering from India on Thursday morning (April 30), Benapole port director Shamin Hossain confirmed, saying, "Export shipments also returning to normal flow."
Trade operations at the country’s largest land port were halted from Sunday evening (April 26) until early Thursday (April 30) as part of election-related security measures in India.
During the suspension period, limited movement of passengers holding medical visas and transport of perishable goods was allowed.
Benapole Importers and Exporters Association Vice-President Aminul Haque said trade activities restarted as scheduled after the restriction period ended.
He said port authorities had taken coordinated preparations with customs officials to avoid congestion during the closure period.
With the resumption of trade, normal activity has returned to the port area, restoring routine commercial operations between the two countries.
