Trader stabbed to death in Moulvibazar
A trader was fatally stabbed by unknown assailants at his shop in Moulvibazar town on Thursday evening.
The deceased, Faizur Rahman Rubel, 53, was the owner of F Rahman Trading located in Shamshernagar. He hailed from Kadipur union under Kulaura upazila.
According to eyewitnesses, Rubel was attacked inside his shop between 6:00 pm and 8:00 pm. Locals heard his screams and rushed to the scene, finding him critically injured.
Rubel was first taken to Moulvibazar Sadar Hospital and later transferred to Sylhet MAG Osmani Medical College Hospital, where he was declared dead around 10:00 pm.
Dr. Ahmed Faisal Zaman, resident medical officer at Moulvibazar Sadar Hospital, said the victim suffered multiple stab wounds and was in critical condition when admitted.
Rubel’s brother-in-law, Emon Tarafdar, said the killing might be linked to an old enmity. “Rubel had been a respected businessman here for many years. We suspect this attack may be due to past disputes,” he said.
Moulvibazar Police Station Officer-in-Charge Gazi Mahbubur Rahman said Rubel was reportedly under financial stress due to debts, but the motive and attackers remain unknown. “An investigation is underway,” he added.
Local trader Badrul Islam, who found Rubel and helped take him to the hospital, said, “I heard his cries and found him bleeding badly.”
No arrests have been made so far. Authorities are conducting further inquiries, and an autopsy is pending.
