Traffic congestion on Jamuna bridge started to ease
Traffic congestion on the Dhaka–Tangail section of the Jamuna Bridge has gradually eased, following heavy vehicle loads and multiple breakdowns along the highway.
The improvement in the situation was observed from Thursday morning (March 19).
From midnight, vehicles were moving slowly along nearly 15 kilometres of the highway from Salla to Rabna Bypass, causing severe inconvenience for homebound passengers ahead of Eid.
Law enforcement authorities intervened, and by 7:00am, traffic began returning to normal.
Tangail Superintendent of Police Mohammad Shamsul Alam Sarker said the congestion was caused by excess vehicle pressure and breakdowns overnight. “Prompt action helped bring the situation largely under control,” he added.
According to the bridge authority, 51,584 vehicles crossed the Jamuna Bridge in the 24 hours leading up to midnight Wednesday.
