Traffic on Faridpur-Barishal highway halted due to blockade in Bhanga
Awami League-supported leaders and activists are protesting by burning tires at the Pukhuria bus stand on the Faridpur-Bhanga-Barishal highway.
Locals said hundreds Awami League supporters blocked the highway at 7:30am today. Due to the blocked, traffic on the Faridpur-Barishal highway has been closed for about three hours.
Road blockades have also been carried out in the Suadi Bazar area of the Dhaka-Khulna highway and the Suryanagar area of the Mawa-Dhaka-Bhanga expressway. This has closed Dhaka's road communication with 21 districts.
Eyewitnesses said that local Awami League supporters are protesting and holding a demonstration on the highway to make the lockdown successful. Police and army were seen taking positions at this time. However, no clashes took place. The protesters gathered with various slogans in favour of the Awami League. They are holding a protest march by burning tires on both sides of the road.
Bhanga Highway Police Station OC Md. Rokibuzzaman said: "In the morning, people supported by the Awami League blocked the road at Pukhuria bus stand on the Faridpur-Bhanga-Barishal highway, Suadi Bazar on the Dhaka-Khulna highway, and Suryanagar bus stand area on the Mawa-Dhaka-Bhanga Expressway. We are trying to convince the protesters."
