Train carriage derails, rail services on Dhaka–Sylhet–Chattogram route suspended
Train services on the Dhaka–Sylhet–Chattogram route have been completely suspended after a carriage of the Dhaka Mail-2 train, travelling from Dhaka to Chattogram, derailed at Bhairab Bazar Junction in Kishoreganj. As a result, several trains have been stranded at different stations along the route, causing severe suffering for passengers.
The accident occurred at around 3am late on Monday night, January 26, shortly after the train departed Bhairab Bazar Junction. As of 8am on Tuesday, January 27, the derailed carriage had not yet been recovered.
Bhairab Railway Station Station Master Md Yusuf confirmed the incident, saying the train left Dhaka Railway Station at 11:45pm on Monday and reached Bhairab Bazar Junction at 2:55am. After receiving clearance from the cabin master, the train moved forward, but around 150 metres from the junction, the fourth coach behind the engine derailed. This led to the suspension of train movement on both the up and down lines.
The train could not be immediately removed from the tracks following the accident. Later, a rescue relief train arrived at the scene from Akhaura. Railway authorities said recovery operations are currently underway.
