Train derailment halts Rangpur-Lalmonirhat rail link
Train services on the Rangpur-Lalmonirhat route were suspended on Saturday (August 8) after a coach of the LR Express derailed at Babupara Railway Station in Rangpur.
The derailment occurred around 11:00am as the LR Express, travelling from Burimari in Lalmonirhat to Parbatipur, was entering Rangpur Railway Station.
According to railway sources and eyewitnesses, the locomotive and a coach derailed shortly after the train entered platform line No. 3. The incident was reportedly caused by decayed wooden sleepers on the track.
However, no casualties were reported in the incident.
Railway officials began recovery operations shortly after the derailment. Two other trains remained halted on the station’s other lines, disrupting normal rail movement in the area.
Rangpur Railway Station Superintendent Md Mamun confirmed the incident and said efforts were underway to clear the derailed train.
“We are working to recover the train. Rail services will resume as soon as possible,” he said.
