Train derails in Sirajganj, rail link between Dhaka and north Bengal suspended
Train communication between Dhaka and north Bengal has been suspended after a bogie of the Silk City train derailed in Sirajganj. The accident occurred at 10:55am on Tuesday, August 4, at the Shahid M Mansur Ali Station on the western side of the Jamuna Bridge.
A rescue train has been dispatched from Ishwardi in Pabna to recover the train.
Hafizur Rahman, booking assistant at Shahid M Mansur Ali Station, said a bogie suddenly derailed after the Rajshahi-bound Silk City train arrived at the station. Since the incident, train communication between the northern region and Dhaka has been suspended. However, no casualties were reported.
In this situation, the Nilasagar train bound for Nilphamari from Dhaka has been stranded at the Saidabad Station on the western side of the Jamuna Bridge.
Ahsanur Rahman, senior sub-assistant engineer (PWI) of Sirajganj Railway, said news has been sent for a rescue train from Ishwardi in Pabna. The line is expected to be restored once it arrives.
