Train derails in Sylhet, rail links with rest of country suspended
The ‘Udayan Express’ train derailed in Sylhet’s Moglabazar, suspending rail communication between Sylhet and the rest of the country.
The incident occurred at around 6:25am on Tuesday, October 7. At least 15 people were reported injured.
Rozina Akter, duty officer and assistant sub-inspector of Moglabazar police station, said police and relevant authorities were carrying out rescue operations at the scene.
Sylhet Railway Station Manager Nurul Islam said the Chattogram-bound train derailed with its locomotive and several coaches upon reaching Moglabazar station in Fenchuganj upazila, disrupting Sylhet’s rail links nationwide.
He added: “A rescue train is on its way to the site to restore rail operations as soon as possible. Necessary steps are being taken.”
