Train movement on Dhaka–Mymensingh route resumes after 2 hrs
Train movement on the Dhaka–Mymensingh route returned to normal two hours after the engine of the Balaka commuter train was recovered in Sreepur, Gazipur.
Train operations resumed at 6:40 pm on Saturday, December 6, after the faulty engine was removed, station master of Sreepur railway station Md Shamim said. Although several trains faced schedule disruption, departures are now continuing gradually.
The incident happened around 4:30 pm at Satkhamair area of Sreepur upazila. Fuel and engine oil began leaking from the locomotive.
Passengers said that when the Dhaka-bound Balaka commuter train reached Kawraid station, a loud noise came from the engine as the train attempted to leave the station. The train then slowed down, and leaking engine oil splashed onto passengers. Panic spread, and many passengers quickly got off the train. Upon receiving information, railway authorities and police rushed to the spot.
Around 6 pm, a rescue engine arrived and removed the damaged one. Station master Md Shamim confirmed that a new locomotive pulled the train at 6:40 pm and other trains are gradually resuming normal operations.
