Rail services between Dhaka and northern districts resumed nearly 22 hours after the Nil Sagar Express derailed at Bagbari area under Adamdighi upazila in Bogura, disrupting train operations across multiple routes.

The first train to run after the disruption was the Simanta Express, which departed Chilahati for Khulna around 12:00pm Thursday (March 19).

Afzal Sohel, senior assistant engineer of Bangladesh Railway in Bogura, confirmed that the damaged rail line has been repaired. For safety reasons, train speeds at the accident site have been temporarily restricted to 10 km/h.

The derailment of nine carriages of the Nil Sagar Express occurred around 2:00pm Wednesday, prompting the formation of two separate investigation committees to determine the cause.

Police reported that over 50 passengers were injured in the accident, many of whom were admitted to hospitals in Bogura and Nawabganj.

Abu Jar Gaffar, resident medical officer at Nawabganj 100-Bed Hospital, said several patients sustained severe fractures and other critical injuries.
