Mymensingh Railway Station narrowly escaped a serious incident early Wednesday (November 19) when miscreants set fire to a local train at the wash pit around 4:00am.

However, the quick action and bravery of three Railway Nirapotta Bahini (RNB) personnel prevented significant damage.

According to RAB Mymensingh in-charge Sirajul Islam, the attackers ignited several seats in one of the coaches with a mixture of gunpowder and petrol-like substances. Spotting the fire, RAB members Habildar Masud Rana, Sepoy Asaduzzaman, and Nayek Ismail immediately acted. Lacking firefighting equipment, they soaked their jackets in water and used them to smother the flames, averting a potential disaster.

After the incident, the suspects fled in the darkness. Only partial damage occurred to a few seats, and further escalation was prevented.

Station Superintendent Abdullah Al Harun praised the RAB team for their presence of mind and courage, noting that the fire could have spread to the engine, other coaches, and platforms if not quickly controlled.

Authorities are reviewing CCTV footage and conducting investigations to identify and apprehend those responsible for the attempted arson.
