A Dhaka court has issued a travel ban on former lawmaker Barrister Syed Sayedul Haque Suman and his wife, Shammie Akhter, as the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) investigates allegations of illicit wealth accumulation.

The order was passed on Monday by Dhaka Metropolitan Senior Special Judge Zakir Hossain Galib, following a petition by ACC Deputy Director AKM Mahbubur Rahman.

According to the ACC, Suman is under investigation for allegedly acquiring wealth beyond known sources of income. The agency stated that credible intelligence suggests he may be planning to flee the country and transfer assets to avoid legal consequences.

“If the accused leaves the country, it could severely hinder the ongoing investigation,” the ACC petition warned.

Barrister Suman was arrested on the night of October 21 in Dhaka’s Mirpur-6 area. He was placed on a five-day remand the following day. After its completion on October 28, he was sent to jail. He has since been implicated in multiple additional cases and remains in custody.

His wife, Shammie Akhter, is also currently in detention.
