Travel ban on Bashundhara Group Chairman-MD, family members

A Dhaka court has imposed travel ban on Bashundhara Group Chairman Ahmad Akbar Sobhan, his son and the group’s Managing Director Sayem Sobhan Anveer and their six family members barring them from leaving the country.

Dhaka Metropolitan Senior Special Judge Mohammad Asshams Jaglul Hossain passed this order in response to an Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) plea on Monday (October 21).

ACC Public Prosecutor (PP) Mahmud Hossain Jahangir confirmed the matter to the media.

Others who have been banned from leaving the country are Anveer's mother Afroza Begum, brother Sadat Sobhan, Sadat Sobhan's wife Sonia Ferdous Sobhan, Sabrina Sobhan, Safiyat Sonhan and Safwan Sobhan.

According to the ACC plea, investigations are underway against Ahmed Akbar Sobhan and his family members for money laundering, revenue evasion, land grabbing, money embezzlement, and acquisition of illegal assets. According to confidential sources, they have planned money laundering and emigration. For this reason, it is necessary to impose a ban on their travel abroad.
