A Dhaka court has imposed a travel ban on former National Assembly Whip and ex-MP of Sherpur-1 constituency, Atiur Rahman Atik, and his wife Shantana Begum amid an ongoing corruption investigation.

Dhaka Metropolitan Senior Special Judge Zakir Hossain Galib issued the order on Saturday (May 24), following a petition filed by the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC).

According to ACC Public Relations Officer Akhtarul Islam, Atiur Rahman and his wife are accused of embezzling government funds through various irregularities and corruption, and that the assets were allegedly acquired in their names and those of other family members.

The petition was submitted by ACC Deputy Director Mozammel Hossain, who is leading the investigation.

The ACC argued that there is a risk the couple may attempt to flee the country to avoid legal proceedings, and requested the travel ban to ensure an impartial and uninterrupted investigation.
