Trawler capsize in Kutubdia: Bodies of four fishermen recovered
The bodies of four fishermen have been recovered after a trawler capsized in the deep sea off Kutubdia in Cox's Bazar, while one fisherman remains missing.
The bodies were recovered on Monday evening, July 13, when they washed ashore in the Amjakhali ghat area of Kutubdia. Kutubdia Police Station Inspector (Investigation) Faruk Ahmed confirmed the matter.
The recovered fishermen are Nasir Uddin, 20, son of Shamsul Alam; Md Karim, 21, son of Abul Kashem; Aiyub Monir, 20, son of Abdul Mabud; and Kamal, 48, of Haiderpara. A 21-year-old fisherman, Nasir Uddin from Kagpara in Pekua upazila, is still missing.
According to police and local sources, a fishing trawler owned by Nurul Absar had set out into the Bay of Bengal with 12 fishermen on Sunday evening. Around 4:30 am on Monday, the trawler capsized due to rough weather in the deep sea near Kutubdia.
Seven fishermen managed to swim ashore or were rescued by another fishing boat, but five went missing. The trawler's location was identified around 4:00 pm, and the four bodies were later recovered.
Kutubdia Police Station Inspector (Investigation) Faruk Ahmed said a general diary had been filed by the trawler owner. Search operations are ongoing to locate the missing fisherman.
