Treason case to be filed against Dr Yunus
Supreme Court senior lawyer and Bangladesh Muslim League President Mohsin Rashid has announced he will file a treason case against Dr Muhammad Yunus.
He said Yunus's actions constitute not just constitutional violation but treason. If the government fails to take action, he will initiate legal proceedings himself.
Speaking on senior journalist Manjurul Alam Panna's YouTube channel 'Manchitro' on Monday, February 23, Mohsin Rashid claimed that after the prime minister's position fell vacant, the President was the only constitutional officeholder. Failing to maintain proper communication with him, not informing him before important policy decisions and disregarding constitutional etiquette were serious violations.
He said the President was obstructed from performing his constitutional duties and forced to sign documents under mental pressure.
He further alleged incidents including removal of the Press Wing, siege of Bangabhaban and attempts to remove the President were against state etiquette. He demanded formation of an investigation committee or commission to examine whether Dr Yunus was involved in or silently supported these incidents.
Mohsin Rashid also demanded investigation against several members of Yunus's advisory council. He said an impartial inquiry is needed to determine whether any harm was caused to the state.
Regarding challenging Article 106 of the constitution, he said he has approached the court and applied for a certified copy of the verdict. He said he would seek review upon receiving the judgement.
He announced that if the government does not form an investigation committee, he will serve notice and file a case on his own initiative, making Dr Yunus a party.
