Treasurer’s office unlocked after 3-day protest at BAU
After three days of intense student protests, Bangladesh Agricultural University (BAU) is beginning to return to normalcy. At approximately 12:30 p.m on Wednesday, the lock on the Treasurer’s office was officially removed, signaling a shift toward resolution.
The breakthrough came late Tuesday night following a five-hour-long dialogue between university administration and student representatives. As a result, the administration withdrew its directive for students to vacate dormitories and assured that a final decision to restore campus stability would be made within seven days during a scheduled syndicate meeting.
Student leaders have temporarily suspended their movement based on this assurance. “The syndicate meeting is expected to take place today,” said AHM Himel, a spokesperson for the protesting students. “We hope it will address key demands—such as the issuance of individual degrees, disciplinary action against external agitators, and protection from harassment for those involved in the protest. If these demands are not met, we may resume our movement.”
With the protest paused, administrative operations resumed this morning after a two-day standstill. The Vice-Chancellor returned to his office at around 10:15 AM, and regular activities have recommenced across departments.
University Proctor Professor Dr. Abdul Alim stated that further discussions with students are planned ahead of the syndicate meeting. “We want to clarify their demands thoroughly so that the syndicate can make informed decisions,” he said.
The campus remains cautiously optimistic as stakeholders await the outcomes of today’s meeting.
