The International Crimes Tribunal has removed Aminul Gani Titu from his role as the state-appointed defence counsel for Sheikh Hasina in a contempt of court case, following public criticism and controversy over his appointment.

Titu has been replaced by Amir Hossain, a lawyer aligned with the ruling Awami League. The change was confirmed by Gazi MH Tamim, a prosecutor at the tribunal.

The decision was handed down today by a three-member bench of the tribunal, led by Chairman Justice Md Golam Mortuza Mojumder.

Titu was initially appointed to represent Hasina in order to ensure transparency in the trial process. However, amid growing concerns about the appropriateness of his role, the tribunal decided to remove him.

The case has sparked debate within legal and political circles, with critics questioning the impartiality and procedures surrounding the appointment of defence counsel in high-profile cases.
