BNP Chairman Tarique Rahman said that although it is difficult for Bangladesh to become a trillion dollar economy, it is not impossible.

He made this comment in an interview with international media The Diplomat.

The interview conducted by New Delhi-based journalist Shahadat Swadhin was published on Wednesday.

In it, Tarique Rahman outlined his plans and commitments regarding the February 12 national elections, future governance structure and economic transformation.

Tarique said that currently the country's economy mainly stands on two pillars - the garment sector and expatriate income. However, if the BNP is able to form the government, special importance will be given to the IT sector. He also announced plans to increase investment in the semiconductor industry, light engineering, footwear industry, small and medium enterprises (SMEs) and food sectors.

According to him, there is an opportunity to increase exports through adequate fish and vegetable production. At the same time, the potential of the creative economy is also being considered.

He said that these defaulters and money laundering occurred during the previous dictatorial regime, where the government itself encouraged corruption. People's money was looted, there was no transparency or accountability.

Asked whether the government under his leadership would not walk the same path, he said that BNP's main commitment is to establish a transparent and accountable governance system.

In an interview, Tarique Rahman said that there have been significant changes in BNP's politics. Earlier, political programs were mainly limited to party leaders and activists, but now people of all ages are participating spontaneously. His contact with the new generation of voters has increased, in particular. He also said that he is directly listening to the thoughts and opinions of students through 'The Plan' program.

He also highlighted BNP's five special service plans to improve the quality of life of the common man. These include monthly allowance and family cards for poor women, direct connection to government services through Pharma Card for farmers, health cards to ensure healthcare, employment creation for youth, and advanced training and skill development programs for expatriates.

Regarding foreign policy, Tarique Rahman said that national interests will be given top priority in the 'Bangladesh First' policy, rather than being tied to any specific country.

Highlighting BNP's plans for environmental protection, he said that initiatives will be taken to dig 20,000 kilometers of canals and plant 250 million trees. He believes that this program can be implemented if the climate fund is used properly and corruption is controlled.
