Trucks and buses set ablaze in three districts

A truck and two buses were set on fire or caught fire in three districts of the country on Saturday night (September 19).

The incidents took place between around 10:30pm and 1:15am.

The vehicles were parked in Sirajganj, Mymensingh and Rajbari. No casualties were reported, although one bus was completely destroyed.

In Sirajganj, a parked truck caught fire around 10:30pm near Jhaail Overbridge in Kamarkhand on the western approach road to Bangabandhu Bridge.

Local residents alerted police and firefighters after spotting the flames, but the fire was brought under control by locals before emergency crews arrived.

Amirul Islam, officer-in-charge (OC) of Jamuna Bridge West Police Station, said the cause of the fire was not immediately known. Police are reviewing highway CCTV footage to determine how it started.

In Mymensingh, a parked bus at Maskanda Central Bus Terminal was allegedly set on fire by unidentified people around midnight. The blaze completely destroyed the vehicle before nearby people could put it out, said Shibirul Islam, OC of Kotwali Model Police Station.

No one was injured in the incident.

In Rajbari, an unidentified person or group allegedly set fire to a local bus named “New Classical” at Daulatdia Bus Terminal in Goalanda around 1:15am. The bus, operated by the Rajbari Owners’ Association, ran on the Daulatdia-Kushtia route.

Firefighters later extinguished the blaze after locals alerted the authorities, said Shafiqul Islam, OC of Goalanda Ghat Police Station. No passengers or staff were on board at the time.

Police are investigating the circumstances behind the fires in all three locations.
