Twins die after being hit by train near home in Faridpur
Two twin brothers, Tayeb Sheikh and Ahmed Sheikh, both aged 4, have been killed after being hit by a train on the railway track adjacent to their home in Madhukhali, Faridpur.
The incident occurred around 2:00 pm on Wednesday, April 1, at the Bhushna-Lakshmandia rail crossing in Nawapara union of the upazila.
The deceased children were the sons of local businessman Akash Sheikh. He also has a daughter alongside the twin sons.
According to police and local sources, the accident occurred when a local train bound for Bhatiapara from Rajbari reached the Lakshmandia rail crossing after passing Madhukhali station. The two children came onto the railway track and were run over by the train, dying instantly.
Local UP member Md Akidul Islam said the children were going to a shop near their house to buy something. While crossing the rail crossing, they inadvertently stepped onto the track. The crossing does not have a gateman, leaving pedestrians to cross at their own risk, which poses a significant danger to children.
Rajbari Railway Police Station Officer-in-Charge Md Mizanur Rahman confirmed the incident, adding that police were on their way to the scene and necessary legal action would be taken.
