Two AL leaders arrested while paying tribute at Shaheed Minar

Two Awami League leaders have been arrested while coming to pay tribute to the martyrs at the Shaheed Minar in Gaibandha.

Police arrested them from Gaibandha Municipal Park area around 3 pm on Saturday, February 21.

The arrested are Emarul Islam Sabin, district Awami League's Industry and Commerce Affairs Secretary and former chairman of Ballamjhar Union Parishad in Sadar upazila; and Shahin, acting general secretary of Naldanga Union Awami League in Sadullapur upazila.

It has been learned that around 2:45 pm, leaders and activists of Awami League, an organisation whose activities were banned during the interim government, brought out a procession from the party office at No 1 Railgate area in the city with floral wreaths. The procession paid tribute to the language martyrs at the Shaheed Minar located in the municipal park. As they were returning after paying tribute, police arrested the two leaders.

When contacted, Gaibandha Sadar Police Station Officer-in-Charge Abdullah Al Mamun told Views Bangladesh that there were political cases against those two Awami League leaders. They have been sent to jail through court in connection with those cases.
