Two arrested with single-barrel gun in Cox’s Bazar

Police arrested two men and recovered a single-barrel gun during an operation in the Ghonar Para area of Cox’s Bazar town on Sunday night (August 16).

The arrests were made around 10:45pm on the road in front of Alamgir Tower, police said.

The detainees were identified as Md Faisal, 45, of Mohajer Para in Ward 10 of Cox’s Bazar Municipality, and Md Rubel, 30, of South Ghonar Para in Ward 9.

Acting on a tip-off, a team led by Assistant Sub-Inspector Saeed Hasan of the Cox’s Bazar Town Police Outpost took position in front of Alamgir Tower. Police stopped Faisal and Rubel after finding them moving around suspiciously and later recovered the firearm they were carrying.

The weapon was seized and the two men were taken into custody. Police said legal proceedings under the relevant firearms law are being initiated against them.

Cox’s Bazar Sadar Model Police Station Officer-in-Charge Sheikh Mohammad Ali confirmed the arrests and recovery.

According to police, both suspects have a previous drug case filed against them under the Narcotics Control Act on July 29, 2021. A fresh case is now being processed in connection with the firearm recovery.
