Two experienced Bangladeshi climbers—Dr Shah Alam Siddiqui (Lalon Siddiqui) and Engineer Salauddin Ahmed—are set to embark on an expedition to conquer Nepal’s Himlung Himal. Both are members of the adventure club Group D Madoventurers (GDM). They will leave for Kathmandu on October 10.

The 7,126-metre-high Himlung Himal, located northeast of the Annapurna range in Nepal’s Manaslu region, is considered a particularly challenging peak. A Japanese team first summited it in 1992. Its steep icy slopes, freezing temperatures, and unpredictable weather make it a formidable climb.

Dr Lalon Siddiqui, a physician and marathon runner, has previously scaled Mera Peak (6,461 metres) and completed the Everest Base Camp trek. Engineer Salauddin Ahmed began his Himalayan expeditions in 2021 and has also successfully summited Mera Peak.

Their expedition is being supported by Nepal’s renowned mountaineering company 8K Expeditions, which provides professional services to climbers worldwide.

“This is a new challenge for us,” said Dr Siddiqui. “We are mentally and physically prepared and hope to raise Bangladesh’s flag at the summit.”

If successful, the duo will join the list of Bangladeshi climbers to have reached the summit of Himlung Himal.
