Two BNP leaders expelled over 'obscene dance, music' on Ziaur Rahman's death anniversary
Two BNP leaders in Joypurhat have been expelled for organising 'obscene dance and music' instead of a mourning rally on the 45th death anniversary of former president and BNP founder Ziaur Rahman.
The expulsion order was issued on Sunday, May 31, in a letter signed by district BNP convener Md Golzar Hossain and senior joint convener Md Masud Rana. Akkelpur upazila's Sonamukhi union BNP president Md Mahbul Alam Mithu and general secretary Mahbub Alam Member were expelled from the party.
The order stated that while the death anniversary was observed with due dignity across the country on May 30, the two leaders did not participate in any party programme. Instead, they engaged in merrymaking with obscene dance and music, using the names of district BNP leaders and members of parliament. Such unorganisational activities are harmful to the party, the order added.
District BNP joint convener M A Wahab said such festive arrangements on a day of mourning cannot be expected from responsible leaders. The union president and general secretary were expelled for being involved in such activities.
