Two bogies of Chattala Express catch fire in Sitakunda
A fire broke out on the Chattala Express near the Bangladesh Military Gate in Bhatiari, Sitakunda, Chattogram on Thursday morning, March 26. The incident occurred around 7:00 am on a train departing from Chattogram. The fire affected the engine and two bogies of the Chattala Express. Passengers quickly disembarked after the fire broke out.
Fire service officials arrived at the scene upon receiving information and brought the fire under control.
An official from the Chattogram Fire Service control room told Dhaka Post that the fire spread to the power car and an adjoining air-conditioned bogie. Upon receiving news of the fire, two units from the Fire Service's Kumira station arrived at the scene and worked to control the blaze. The fire is now under control.
Mostafizur Rahman Bhuiyan, Railway Divisional Manager for Chattogram, told Dhaka Post that the fire originated primarily in the power car and then spread to another bogie. However, passengers had already evacuated that bogie and removed their luggage beforehand. No casualties were reported. The fire is now under control. The damaged bogies have been detached. A replacement power car is being sent from Chattogram. Once attached, the train will proceed towards Dhaka.
He added that train movement on the Chattogram-Dhaka route was somewhat disrupted during the incident, but no train schedules were cancelled. Services are now largely returning to normal.
