Two brothers killed by lightning strike in Bagerhat

Two brothers were killed in a lightning strike while working in a paddy field in Morelganj upazila of Bagerhat on Wednesday morning (September 2).

The deceased were identified as Bidhan Bachhar, 55, and Manik Bachhar, 40, sons of Manoranjan Bachhar of Shailkhali village in the upazila.

The incident took place around 11:30am as the brothers were clearing weeds from a paddy field amid heavy rain and inclement weather, according to locals.

A sudden lightning strike hit the field, killing both brothers on the spot. Other farmers working nearby later found them dead and recovered their bodies.

Md Shahidullah, officer-in-charge (OC) Morelganj Police Station, said police went to the scene after being informed of the incident.

"The bodies would be handed over to the family after completion of the necessary legal procedures," he added.
