Two brothers killed in Saudi Arabia after being lured by dreams of Canada
Two brothers from Gazipur were killed in Saudi Arabia after being deceived by a scam promising a better future in Canada. According to their family, they were instead taken to Saudi Arabia and later murdered following demands for additional money.
The deceased were identified as Kamruzzaman Kakon (26), an engineer, and Kamrul Islam Sagar (22), sons of businessman Mosharraf Hossain from Uttar Bhurulia in Gazipur City.
According to the family, Bahar Uddin, director of the recruiting agency “Samia International,” took money with the promise of sending the two brothers to Canada. When that plan failed, he allegedly sent them to Saudi Arabia instead, where he demanded more money while keeping them confined. The family claims the brothers were ultimately murdered.
On Wednesday (May 21), police in Dammam, Saudi Arabia, discovered their bodies inside a flat. According to authorities, they entered the apartment around 7 a.m. after neighbors reported seeing blood seeping from under the door.
CCTV footage led to the identification of a Bangladeshi man named Monju as a suspect. The victims’ family suspects the killings were carried out on the orders of Bahar Uddin.
Their father, Mosharraf Hossain, stated that Bahar initially took Tk300,000 with the promise of sending his elder son, Kakon, to Canada. Later, Bahar proposed sending his younger son, Sagar, to Saudi Arabia for Tk430,000, and Mosharraf agreed. However, once Sagar arrived in Saudi Arabia, Bahar demanded an additional Tk400,000, claiming that Sagar was being held there.
Bahar then took another Tk530,000 to send Kakon to Saudi Arabia as well. Instead of arranging jobs, both brothers were confined in a small room. Upon learning of their situation, Mosharraf traveled to Saudi Arabia on an Umrah visa and visited his sons.
Before Mosharraf returned to Bangladesh, Bahar asked him to carry a package, which was later seized by immigration authorities. Bahar then claimed the package contained gold worth Tk13 lakh and began threatening Mosharraf, demanding compensation.
On May 9, a group of men arrived at Mosharraf’s home in a microbus searching for him. When they couldn’t find him, they held his elderly father hostage and threatened to kill Mosharraf’s sons. Mosharraf called 999, and police intervened to rescue him.
Just a week later, the heartbreaking news arrived: Mosharraf’s two sons had been murdered in Dammam, Saudi Arabia.
The family has appealed to the government for the swift return of the bodies to Bangladesh, a fair and impartial investigation, and the prompt prosecution of those responsible.
Officer-in-Charge Mehedi Hasan of Gazipur Metropolitan Police’s Sadar Police Station said they are aware of the incident and have begun an investigation.
