Two businessmen killed as bus falls into ditch after collision with pickup in Faridpur

Two businessmen have been killed and at least 25 others injured after a passenger bus collided head-on with a pickup truck and fell into a ditch in Bhanga, Faridpur. The accident occurred around 9:30 am on Monday, April 13, at Bablatola area on the Faridpur-Barishal highway.

Bhanga Highway Police Station Sub-Inspector Md Mamun said the passenger bus named 'Shah Farid', travelling from Faridpur to Madaripur, collided with a pickup truck carrying Bangi vegetables from the opposite direction. Two people were killed and 25 others injured in the crash. Police arrived quickly and recovered the pickup truck. The injured were rescued and sent to various hospitals.

Following the collision, the passenger bus veered off the road and fell into a 40-foot deep ditch, overturning. Among the two people in the pickup, Jahangir Mollah, 42, died at the scene. The other, Alamgir Sheikh, 40, succumbed to his injuries on the way to Dhaka. Both deceased were businessmen and residents of Kaidubi Sadardi village in Bhanga municipality.

At least 25 passengers on the bus sustained injuries, including severed and fractured limbs, heads and other body parts. With the help of locals, Bhanga Fire Service and Highway Police rescued the injured and admitted them to Bhanga Hospital. Those with serious injuries were sent to Faridpur and Dhaka Medical College Hospital by government and private ambulances.
