Two children die in strong current coming down from the mountain

Two children died after being swept away by a strong current coming down from the mountain in Banshkhali upazila of Chattogram. They died in two separate incidents in Baharchhara union of the upazila around 11:30 am on Friday (July 10).

The deceased were identified as Mohammad Ashiq, 7, son of Kamal Uddin, a migrant from Dakshin Ilsha village of Baharchhara union, and Mohammad Miraj, 3, from Ratnapur area of ​​the same union.

Locals said that various areas of the upazila have been flooded due to continuous rain and landslides for several days. In this situation, two children who were in the courtyard of their house were swept away by the strong current coming down from the mountain. Later, family members and locals rescued them, but they were no longer alive.

Baharchhara union parishad ward number 4 member Md. Enam confirmed the death of the two children and said that a shadow of grief has fallen on the area due to the incident.

Banshkhali police station officer-in-charge (OC) Md. Rabiul Haque said that the police have received information about the death of two children who were swept away by a strong current coming down from the mountain. Arrangements will be made for their burial after the necessary legal procedures are completed.
