Two children drown in ponds in Bhola
Two children drowned in separate incidents in ponds in Bhola Sadar upazila on Monday afternoon (September 7). The deceased were identified as Md Abdullah, 3, and Abdur Rahman, 1.5 years old.
Abdullah was the son of Md Shafiq of Ward No. 5 in Bhabta union, while Abdur Rahman was the son of Md Sumon of Ward No. 5 in Alinagar union.
Family members said Abdullah's family was busy with household work when he went out to play with other children. At one point, he went to the bank of a pond near the house and accidentally fell into the water. After some time, family members and neighbours recovered him and took him to Bhola 250-bed General Hospital, where the doctor on duty declared him dead.
In the other incident, Abdur Rahman's mother left him in the house and went to a neighbour's house. The child crawled out of the house in search of his mother and fell into the pond next to the house. Neighbours later recovered him and took him to Bhola General Hospital, where doctors declared him dead.
Bhola Sadar Model Police Station Officer-in-Charge Md Monirul Islam confirmed the incidents and said no complaints had been filed by the families. Process is underway to file two unnatural death cases at the police station.
