Two children drowned in Kishoreganj

Two children drowned in a pond at Karimganj of Kishoreganj. The incident took place around 2:00pm on Wednesday (June 11) in Kadirjangal Union of the upazila.

The deceased have been identified as Yasmin (8), daughter of Shafiqul Islam from Pipua village, and Taiyeba (9), daughter of Rasel Mia.

Dr. Riyad Shahed Roni, the Upazila Health and Family Planning Officer of Karimganj, confirmed the matter.

According to local sources, Yasmin and Taiyeba went to the pond near their house to bathe around 12:30pm. When they did not return home for a long time, their family members started searching for them. Later, during the search in the pond, their bodies were found trapped under mud.

They were quickly taken to the Karimganj Upazila Health Complex, where emergency doctor Dr. Hadiur Rashid declared both children dead.

Dr. Riyad Shahed Roni said, “The two children were brought to the hospital dead.”
